Summer is the time for frozen sweet treats and I can’t seem to get them out of my mind or off of my crochet hook. This amigurumi ice cream sandwich promises almost instant gratification-it’s so quick and easy!
Don’t forget to mark your rows! Rows are not joined in this pattern, so take a second to mark the beginning of each row. It will save you the frustration of losing count!
Amiugurumi Ice Cream Sandwich Pattern
- Worsted weight yarn-I used Red Heart in Coffee and White
- 6 mm safety eyes
- Sewing thread and needle
- Ch – Chain
- Sl – Slip Stitch
- Sc – Single Crochet
- ScInc – Single Crochet Increase, 2 single crochets in one stitch
- Sc3Inc – 3 single crochets in one stitch
- ScDec – Single Crochet Decrease, single crochet 2 stitches together
In a dark brown yarn, Ch 7, turn.
Row 1 – Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and in next 4 Sc, Sc3Inc, turning as you go. Working in bottom loops of beginning Chs, Sc in next 4 loops, ScInc in final loop. (14)
Row 2 – Sc3Inc, Sc in next 4, Sc3Inc, Sc, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 4, Sc3Inc, Sc. (22)
Row 3 – Sc, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 6, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 3, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 6, Sc3Inc, Sc, Sc. (30)
Row 4 – Sc in next 2, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 8, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 5, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 8, Sc3Inc, Sc in next 3. (38) Break off dark brown, work in end.
Row 5 – Continuing in white, in back loops only, Sc in every Sc around. (38)

Now is the time to add eyes and a smile. The example uses 6 mm safety eyes inserted between rows 2 & 3 in the corner holes made by 3 Sc in one stitch. Embroider any expression you like!
Row 9 – Working in back loops only, (Sc, ScDec) twice, Sc in next 5, (Sc, ScDec) twice, Sc, Sc, (Sc, ScDec) twice, Sc in next 5, (Sc, ScDec) twice, Sc, Sc. (30)
Row 10 – (ScDec, Sc) twice, Sc in next 3, (ScDec, Sc) 4 times, Sc in next 3, (ScDec, Sc) twice. (22)
Row 11 – ScDec twice, Sc in next 3, ScDec 4 times, Sc in next 3, ScDec twice, Sl, Fasten off leaving a long end for sewing.
Stuff your ice cream sandwich. Polyester fiberfill works just fine. Once he’s stuffed, use the long end of yarn to whip stitch the opening closed. Fasten off, and work in the end.
